Fundraiser for Marshall Gray on May 24 in Avon

There will be a fundraiser for Marshall Gray on Saturday, May 24, at the Avon Fire Station.

From 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., there will be games, food, a bake sale, and a silent auction with gift certificates from restaurants and shops and much more.

From 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., there will be a program on drug abuse awareness and from 7:30 until 9 p.m., the local band Peer Pressure will entertain.

Mallory Gray has organized this fundraiser for her brother, Marshall, who is 20 years old and was born and raised in Kinnakeet. On Jan. 30, he was admitted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville in a coma. Marshall had suffered a brain injury due to an accidental drug overdose. He is now doing well, Mallory reports, and took his first steps on May 9. Unfortunately, she adds, when Marshall was admitted to the hospital he did not have medical insurance and his medical expenses are more than the family cannot absorb.

Hatteras Library reopens in new temporary location

The Hatteras Library, located in the Community Building in Hatteras village, reopened  on Tuesday, Dec. 11, in a new location in the Hatteras Community Building meeting room.

Hatteras story time was held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Hatteras Preschool above the Hatteras United Methodist Church, next door.   This will be the last week of  “growing readers” story times at all three Dare County Library locations until the week of Jan. 14.

Library customers can enter by using the walkway closest to the Hatteras Post Office.  Look for the large blue and white “library” sign, to denote our new entrance.   Other doors to the Community Building are for emergency exit only or the construction crew; so this is your only way into the library.
