60 students receive diplomas at Cape Hatteras Secondary School By IRENE NOLAN  School guidance counselor Betsy Gwin said the class was the largest in the memory of any of the school administrators. Fifty-nine seniors graduated in 2006, Gwin said. Last year, there were 41 graduates. The valedictorian of the class is Theodore Eugene Fort, and the salutatorian is Hyatt Cartland Busbey. The guest speaker at the ceremony was Trip Hobbs, former CHSSCS principal who is now the Dare County Schools personnel director. Diplomas were awarded by the school’s principal, Dr. Louis Tonelson; Dr. Sue Burgess, superintendent of Dare County Schools, and Braxton B. Hall, social studies teacher. Kristian Nicole Head, class president, welcomed the graduates, their families, and guests. Other officers in the Class of 2009 were Ashley Paige Isbrecht, vice president; Lauren Hope Kostich, secretary, and Caitlyn Elizabeth Gray, treasurer. The class motto was “We all take different paths in life but no matter where we go we take a little of each other everywhere” (Tim McGraw). And the class song was “Live for Better Days” by Ignite. The senior slide show was “Life Beyond the Bridge” by Kristian Head and Brandon Matthews, presented by Kristian Head and Woodward Luke Skudin. Closing remarks were by Mariah Ashley James.
