Ferries between Ocracoke and mainland return to normal schedules

The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Ferry Division says that its maintenance staff has repaired the Motor Vessel Carteret, and the 5 p.m. run out of Cedar Island to Ocracoke will take place today.

The ferry runs between Cedar Island-Ocracoke and Swan Quarter-Ocracoke will return to the normal schedule effective Friday, June 26.

The ferries between Ocracoke and the mainland terminals at Swan Quarter and Cedar Island were reduced on Monday, when the ferry Carteret was taken out of service for repairs.

The U.S. Coast Guard has cleared the repaired vessel for service. Assistant Ferry Director Don Chapman praised the maintenance staff for getting the vessel back up and running quickly after it experienced damage to one of its main engines.
