UPDATE: Hatteras Island Meals to
resume meal delivery on May 13
Island Meals, Inc. will resume meals delivery to clients from Rodanthe
to Hatteras village on Monday, May 13. The organization experienced
financial trouble early in 2013 and delivery was suspended in February.

associations, churches, businesses and individuals -- responded
immediately when the needs of the organization were made known by the
organization’s restructured board.
Thanks to the success of a
May 2 fundraiser and an anonymous donation, the organization is now
able to resume noon-time meal delivery three days a week.
Hatteras Island Meals fundraiser, held at the Beach Klub at Koru
Village, included a barbecue dinner by Crazy Johnny’s BBQ, a silent
auction and a raffle.
Hatteras Island businesses and artists
contributed more than 75 prizes and Sysco of Hampton Roads supplied the
food for the event.
This event raised over $6,000 with additional donations still coming in as silent auction winners collect their items.

that challenge just prior to the May 2 fundraiser.
On May 13,
the organization is now prepared to resume delivery three days a week,
knowing that bills are paid and funding is in place for several months.

Hatteras Island villages, volunteer community managers make sure
noon-time meals are delivered to the organization’s clients. Serving in
Rodanthe, Waves and Salvo is Cathy Morrett. Jim Coffey covers Avon.
Nancy Quast is the community manager in Buxton and Frisco. Leeann
Quidley Canning takes cares of Hatteras village.
