Hatteras Island finally gets its July 4
fireworks show....WITH SLIDE SHOW

Hatteras and Ocracoke residents and visitors finally got their July 4 fireworks show -- on July 7.

Hurricane Arthur passed close to the Outer Banks in the early morning hours of Friday, July 4, causing a postponement of the Friday night show.

Independence Day on Hatteras seemed like anything but a holiday since most folks were cleaning up from the storm.  Radio Hatteras, our new community station, did play patriotic music during the day and a recitation of the Declaration of Independence that night.

However, last night a good crowd showed up at the Avon Pier and more watched from afar at homes and on the beaches.

The Beach Klub next to the pier also had a celebration with food, live music, and fire dancers.

The fireworks are sponsored by the Avon Property Owners Association and paid for with a grant from the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau and contributions from area businesses.

July 4 celebrations on Ocracoke and in Hatteras village were cancelled because of Arthur, but will be back next year.
