Limited debris pickup will begin in Hatteras village
storm debris removal will begin in Hatteras village on Friday, Oct.
21. Debris removal services will increase next week when additional
resources from the debris removal contractors arrive.
County will provide updated information regarding the schedule as
more details are available.
storm-generated debris should be placed on a state-maintained road in
the public right-of-way and separated as follows:
DEBRIS. Whole trees,
tree stumps, tree branches, tree trunks and other leafy material.
AND DEMOLITION DEBRIS. Damaged
components of buildings and structures such lumber and wood, wall
board, glass, metal, roofing materials, tile, furnishings, and
HAZARDOUS WASTE. Materials
that are ignitable, reactive, toxic or corrosive such as paints,
cleaners, pesticides, etc.
freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps, ovens, ranges, washing
machines, clothes dryers and water heaters.
televisions, office electronic equipment, etc.
loose debris will be collected. Bagged debris should not be placed on
the public right-of-way.
county has said that residents should get their debris out in the
state right-of-way as soon as possible, but there will be more than
one pass through storm-damaged areas by the contractor.
