Board of Commissioners will meet in Buxton on Nov. 21

The Dare County Board of Commissioners will meet at the Fessenden Center in Buxton for its second regular meeting in November, which is on Monday, Nov. 21, at 5 p.m.

The suggestion to move the meeting came during the public comment period of the Nov. 7 meeting from a citizen who was concerned about the impact of Hurricane Matthew on southern Hatteras Island.

The goal seemingly was to give the islanders increased accessed to the commissioners, even though we have been permitted to give public comment to the board at its meetings through a live hookup from the Fessenden Center since last May.  Islanders don't take advantage of this technology at every meeting, but they have at a half dozen or so since the hookup began.

Moving the entire meeting here, especially after the one-two punch of Hermine and Matthew, will probably bring out a larger crowd than usual to the Fessenden Center.

The agenda for the meeting is very brief, and there is nothing on it that specifically applies to Hatteras Island.  However, during the public comment period that occurs toward the beginning of the meeting, citizens can bring up anything and everything on their minds -- with a five-minute time limit.
