Progress Steadily Continues on Both
Solutions – Update for Tuesday Afternoon

Per a Tuesday afternoon update from CHEC, progress is steadily moving forward on the two solutions that are being implemented to address the power outage.

Overhead Solution: All of the transmission poles required for the overhead solution have been set. The next steps will include connecting the new overhead cables in two places – to the existing underground lines just before the site of the damage and to the existing overhead lines that run the length of Hatteras Island. This is a highly technical and detailed process.

Underground Solution: The third damaged cable has been exposed. Crews are installing additional well points to remove more water and making other preparations to provide a safe environment for the splicing team to make repairs. Splicing could begin as early as tomorrow morning.

Timeframe: The timeframe for either solution remains at 6-10 days from now.

More information will be shared this evening.
