CHNS Update From Ranger Karol Jones

Ranger Karol Jones reports that there was a motor vehicle rollover accident with no injuries in between Ramp 44 and Cape Point that occurred due to a beach ledge caving in along the shoreline. Please use caution if driving on beach ledges, and utilize the interdunal road when travelling to Cape Point when necessary.

Ranger Karol Jones reports that a2018 dates have been set for area campgrounds and the lighthouse. All Cape Hatteras National Seashore campgrounds will be open from March 30 until November 26 2018, while the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be open from April 20 until October 8.

The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse will be open on December 9, 2017 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. for a special free winter lighthouse climb.

The Frisco pier project begins on Tuesday, December 5, and will take several months to complete.  During the project, the parking lot will be temporarily closed, as well as the area immediately around the Frisco pier on the beach.  The area will be fenced and signed No Trespassing.  This will also temporarily limit vehicles driving on the beach the last 0.2 miles after the pier.

As for the Ramp 55 project, personnel hope to be completed before the end of January 2018.
