A potent storm system is forecast to move through
eastern North Carolina starting late Sunday night or early Monday
morning, per a Thursday update from the National Weather Service
Newport / Morehead City office.
The timing may change over the weekend, but
residents and visitors are urged to be prepared for the possibility of
damaging wind gusts, isolated tornadoes, and locally heavy downpours.
Sustained winds in the 25-30 mph range are
currently forecast for Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands late Sunday and
early Monday morning.
With the timing of storm system, with the bulk of
the severe weather occurring late at night, the public should ensure
that they have a way to receive warnings as needed, such as a NOAA
Weather Radio. For more information on the weekend’s forecast,
