Oceanside flooding started to hit Hatteras Island
with full force on Thursday morning, with multiple locations reporting
water inundation on N.C. Highway 12.
Flooding was reported in Hatteras village, in
southern Frisco, in northern Buxton close to the Cape Hatteras Motel,
on Ocean View Drive in Avon, and at multiple spots on Pea Island
including the S-Curves north of Rodanthe and the Pea Island Visitors
Per a Thursday morning update from NCDOT, N.C.
Highway 12 was still passable as of 9 a.m., however, travel is not
advised. As of 8:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, access to the Outer Banks
is restricted to emergency personnel only.
High Tide is at 10:45 a.m. in Avon, and the next high tide for Hatteras Island is around 11 p.m. on Thursday night.
Florence is expected to make landfall on early Friday morning in southern North Carolina or South Carolina.
