Speed Limits in Villages to Increase to 45 mph this Week

Off-season speed limits of 45 mph through Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Frisco villages are expected to go into effect this week, per the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT.)

The speed limits in these villages are seasonally reduced to 35 mph in May to adapt to the increase in summertime traffic. Traditionally, the speed limit increases to 45 mph on or around September 15, but the replacement of the speed limit signs was delayed due to Hurricane Florence.

NCDOT Public Relations Officer Tim Haas confirmed that NCDOT crews will be on the island this week to change the speed limits signs throughout the villages to reflect the increased 45 mph speed limit.

The speed limits will remain in effect until May 15, 2019.
