Engagements and Weddings


Sara James weds Seth Mnookin

Sara James, an author and magazine editor, and Seth Mnookin, an author and magazine writer, were married on Sunday, Sept. 2, in Manhattan, New York.  E. Shane Hoffman, a Universal Life minister and a friend of the couple, officiated at Studio 450, a loft event space.

The couple both work for Conde Nast magazines.  She is the fashion news editor of Men’s Vogue in Manhattan; he works from Brooklyn as a contributing editor of Vanity Fair.

The bride, 31, will continue to use her name professionally.  Until July of last year, she was a media editor at Women’s Wear Daily.  She is the author, with Liz Ruckdeschel, of the “What if…” series of young adult novels, the most recent being “What if…You Broke All the Rules” (Delacorte, 2007).  The bride graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

She is the daughter of Catherine T. James of Cape Hatteras, N.C., and the late Ted M. James.  The bride’s mother is the owner of Fox Watersports, a store founded by the bride’s father.  Mr. James was a surfer, and the store sells equipment and apparel for surfing and windsurfing.

The bridegroom, 35, is the author of “Feeding the Monster:  How Money, Smarts, and Nerve Took a Team to the Top” (Simon & Schuster, 2006), about the owners, executives and players who took the Boston Red Sox to the World Series championship in 2004, and “Hard News: Twenty-One Brutal Months at The New York Times and How They Changed the American Media” (Random House, 2005), an account of The Times under the editorship of Howell Raines.

The bridegroom graduated magna cum laude from Harvard.

He is the son of Wendy and James Mnookin of Newton, Mass.  His mother is a poet whose most recent book is “What He Took” (BOA Editions, 2002).  His father is a financial consultant at Cambridge Associates in Boston.

Hadley Dempsey engaged to Bob Gross
  


   
Dr. and Mrs. Larry Dempsey, of Hatteras and Rocky Mount, N.C., are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Hadley Anne Dempsey, to Robert Ben Gross. Bob is  the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Gross of Amherst, Ohio.
Bob is presently stationed at the Hatteras Inlet Coast Guard Facility.  Hadley is a middle school teacher at Rocky Mount Academy.

Hadley and Bob were engaged on July 20 and will exchange vows on June 7, 2008, at Hatteras United Methodist Church in Hatteras village.
