Cape Hatteras Anglers Club Tournament celebrates 50 years

Larry Hardham of the Cape Hatteras Anglers Club said that the world's
largest surf fishing tournament of 120 teams sponsored by the CHAC was
a big success with great weather and no rain. There were lots of fish
caught and a great time was had by all. This was the 50th year for this
event, which was held on Hatteras Island on Nov. 8 and 9.
Seventy-two volunteer judges in 36 teams worked during the tournament.
The winners are:
FIRST PLACE: SOUTH JERSEY SURFCASTERS with Captain Vinny Morris,
8-year-old Jim Jones, who has been fishing since age 4 (How about that
men?), John Jones, Bob Renier, Dan Siteman and Larry Kosilla.
SECOND PLACE: SAND FIDDLERS with Captain Eddie Ochs, Buddy Jennette,
Rick Scarborough, Andy Stephenson, Tim Wilson and Frank Folb, Jr.
THIRD PLACE: 'F' TEAM: with Captain Art Beckwith, L.T. Eure, Rande Banks, Tom Chance, Bunky Stevens and Larry Lewis.
TOP FEMALE TEAM: FISHING LURES with Captain Carol Dillon, Kathy Jarvis,
Mary McAnally, Mary Gray, Rauna Fuller and Patti Barker. Carol Dillon
landed a 3-point fish with two minutes to go to win the top female team
award. This is the ninth time that her team has won this award.
FIRST SESSION WINNER: SOUTH JERSEY SURFCASTERS with 113 fish for 343 points.
SECOND SESSION WINNER: SLAMMIN' SAMMY'S HURRICANES with 125 fish for 299 points.
THIRD SESSION WINNER: THE RISING TIDES with 42 fish for 207 points.
FOURTH SESSION WINNER: SAND FIDDLERS with 64 fish for 288 points.
LARGEST FISH AWARDS:
Largest Red Drum caught by a Female: 26-inch Red Drum by Diane James of the Raisin Rods.
Largest Red Drum caught by a Male: 28 1/2-inch Red Drum by Mike Hardin of the Surf Sheiks.
Largest Blue Fish caught by a Female: 19 1/4-inch Bluefish by Audrey Whitlock of the Outcasters.
Largest Bluefish caught by a Male: 18 1/4-inch Bluefish by Tom Gilliam of the Surfside Six.
Largest fish Overall (other than Red Drum or Bluefish) caught by Male and Female.
Largest fish caught by a Male: 31-inch False Albacore by John McGee of the Oceanside Anglers.
Largest fish caught by a Female: 31 3/4-inch False Albacore by Dr.
Julie Ball of Virginia Beach.Anglers and her name will be added to the
EDGAR O. HOOPER MEMORIAL PLAQUE which honors the individual who caught
the largest fish in the tournament for this year.

First Place: South Jersey Surfcasters of Clementon, N.J. (190 fish scoring 581 points)
Second Place: Sand Fiddlers of Buxton (161 fish scoring 533 points)
Third Place: 'F' Team of Kitty Hawk (145 fish scoring 526 points)
Fourth Place: One More Cast of Nags Head (140 fish scoring 498 points)
Fifth Place: Slammin' Sammy's Hurricanes of Nags Head (167 fish scoring 468 points)
Sixth Place: Fishin' Fools of Nags Head (119 fish scoring 438 points)
Seventh Place: The Rising Tides of Nags Head (125 fish scoring 433 points)
Eight Place: SCABS of Virginia Beach (121 fish scoring 384 points)
Ninth Place: Six Fathoms of Kill Devil Hills (103 fish scoring 367 points)
Tenth Place: Riverside Rats of Kill Devil Hills (115 fish scoring 360 points)
TOP FEMALE TEAMS
Top Female Team: Fishing Lures of Buxton finished 15th overall with 139 fish for 296 points
Second Top Female Team: The Stormy Gales of Nags Head finished 16th overall with 84 fish for 293 points.
Third Top Female Team: Show Stoppers of Nags Head finished 32nd overall with 91 fish for 237 points.
