The oldest structure, built in 1874, is under active restoration to its original condition. Visitors can view its Gothic architecture with post-and-lintel construction, seldom seen today. Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum

The Web site of the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, a shipwreck museum located near the ferry docks in Hatteras village.  The museum celebrates the heritage of the seafaring folks of the Outer Banks and tells the story of the history of the country through the many ships that have wrecked on the treacherous shoals off the islands from discovery until modern times.  Though not quite finished, the museum is open to the public and features the historic first-order Fresnel lens from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
