MaryE. Bisantz died on March 10, 2013. She was born on Sept. 5, 1944 inBuffalo, N.Y. She graduated from Holy Angels Academy in 1962 and wassubsequently awarded the Grey Nuns Distinguished Alumnae Award. A 1966graduate of D’Youville College, Mary received the Ann Lum DistinguishedAlumna Award in 2006. In 1969, Mary was awarded the Juris Doctor Degreeat the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. During hersenior year, she had the distinction of being the first female editorof SUNY Buffalo Law Review.
She was admitted to the practice oflaw in New York in 1970 and practiced with Brown-Kelly from 1970 to1972. She was an assistant district attorney and worked in TheCommission on Judicial Conduct in Albany, N.Y., in 1975. Mary thenworked as an assistant attorney general of New York in Albany until shewas appointed as the United States administrative law judge in Raleigh,N.C., in 1994. In 1995, she was promoted to the position of hearingoffice chief judge. In 1999 she was promoted to the position of actingregional chief judge in Seattle, Wash. Later that year, Mary wasappointed to the position of deputy chief judge in Falls Church, Va.,serving until 2003, the year she returned to Raleigh.
Mary retired at the end of 2006, spending much of her time in Rodanthe, where she owned Homeport Gifts on Hatteras Island.
Maryis predeceased by her parents, two brothers, and a sister. She issurvived by her loving sister, Patricia Caldiero, and many devotednieces, nephews and friends.
