BUXTON — Mary Louise Ballance Gray, 79, native of Hatteras Island, wasdrawn into the waiting arms of the Lord on May 21, 2012.
She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jack Stewart Gray,her two daughters, Jaki Gray and Mary Gray McAnally, a grandson,Jackson Whitley, and her sister, Grace Peele. She is predeceased by herparents, Eliva and Ellsworth Ballance, and her brothers and sister:Thurman Ballance, Gamaiel Ballance, Wheeler Ballance, E.B. Ballance,and Myrtis Austin.
Born and raised on Hatteras Island, Mary Louise was an avid fisherman,a supportive and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend,as well as a renowned cook. Such was her prowess in the kitchen thatmany a friend or relative was known to show up “for a visit” just atdinner time.
For many years, Mary was an active member of the Buxton MethodistChurch, the United Methodist Women, the Eastern Star, and the CapeHatteras Anglers Club.
Mary Louise was a true lady in every sense. She took great care to makeeveryone she met feel at ease, and she loved to entertain. She will begreatly missed.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at theBuxton Methodist Church on Thursday, May 24, at 11 a.m. with the Revs.Cory Oliver and Charles Moseley officiating
