WANCHESE — Rev. Elmo “Popeye”Hughes Daniels, 83, died on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016 at Sentara NorfolkGeneral Hospital. A native of Wanchese, he was the son of the lateCharlie Bailey and Debra Daniels. Elmo was an ordained minister and theoperator of Outer Banks Christian Radio. He founded the Assembly ofPraise in Columbia, N.C., and was a member of Wanchese Assembly of God.
Elmo is survived by his wife, Jean Ballance Daniels; daughter, Tanga D.Saunders and husband, Terry, of Manteo and a brother, Charles BaileyDaniels Jr. of Wanchese. Also surviving Elmo are seven grandchildren,Tara Gray and husband, Jeff, Toby Saunders, Karen Long and husband,Brian, Laura Hufton and husband, Dallas, Walter Daniels, Devin Daniels,and Gunnar Daniels; and five great-grandchildren. Along with hisparents, Elmo was preceded in death by two sons, Brock H. Daniels andWalter C. Daniels; a granddaughter, Ashley Paige Daniels; and twosisters, Dot Burrus and Aileen Cudworth.
A funeral will be held at 2 .p.m on Saturday, Sept. 3, at WancheseAssembly of God with a viewing to begin one hour prior to the service.Burial will take place at Cudworth Cemetery. The family invitesfriends and relatives to join them for a reception following theservice at the Whole Ministries Center.
