ELIZABETH CITY — Menville BrooksieMeekins Kuhl, 92, of East Penny Drive died Friday, July 29, 2016 at herresidence. She was born on Aug. 1, 1923 in Avon to the late DavidFields Meekins and Menvil Gray Meekins and was the widow of HerbertErnest Kuhl Jr. She lived in Richmond, VA., for more than 40years and taught school at St Andrew’s Parochial School in Richmond foralmost 20 years. After retirement, she moved to Elizabeth Cityand was a member of the Anglican Church of the Redeemer in Camden,N.C. She was a faithful member of the Order of St. Luke HealingMinistry.
She is survived by a son, Herbert “Bert” Ernest Kuhl III, and wife,Jeanie, of Elizabeth City; a granddaughter, Katharine Jean Kuhl, ofWashington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extendedfamily. She was pre-deceased by a son, Robert William Kuhl;sisters, Lola Meekins and Merian Meekins; and brothers, ChaunceyMeekins, Charles Meekins, Horace Meekins, and Milton Meekins.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 1 p.m. at Churchof the Redeemer officiated by the Rev. Craig Stephans. The familywill receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 at TwifordMemorial Chapel and immediately after the service in the churchfellowship hall. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Ashland,Va. Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Redeemer, 207South Highway 343, Camden, NC 27921.
