POWER OUTAGE UPDATE: As of 11:40 a.m., power has been restored to all villages on Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island. If your power did not come back on please call 866-511-9862

All of Hatteras and Ocracoke islands are currently without power as of 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 29.

Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative reported in an online statement that the cause of the outage affecting Hatteras and Ocracoke islands is on Dominion Energy’s system, which provides the transmission feed from north of Oregon Inlet.

Crews have been dispatched to address the issue, and the Island Free Press will provide updates as soon as they are available.

  1. Looking forward to another summer vacation if the power should go out for a week or two. The week we had a few years ago was wonderful. We were only without power for 30 hours of that entire week.
