MANTEO — Jeannette Sibbette Denton, 84, of Manteo, NC died Thursday, August 15, 2019, at her home.
Born on December 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Beard and Dennis Sibbette. She was raised in St. Pauls, NC where she was crowned the first-ever Miss St. Pauls.
Graduating from East Carolina University, Jeannette began her career as a schoolteacher. She served Robeson, Edgecombe, Cumberland, Craven, Hertford, and Dare Counties before her retirement. Well known for her Brunswick stew, she loved to cook, garden, and decorate. She was also an excellent pianist.
Jeannette is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard H. Denton; two daughters, Kimberly Snyder and Susan Crumpton (John); one son, Richard Henry Denton, Jr. (Dawn); six grandchildren, Leah, Dylan, Scott, Alyssa (Drew), Dayna, and Alec; and four great-grandchildren, Shane, Jordan, Kendall, and Asher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and her four sisters.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service and immediately following for a dinner reception in the church fellowship hall.
