WANCHESE — Vernon James Gilbert, 57, of Wanchese, NC passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2020, at his home. He was a successful boat builder and business owner of Blue Devil Boatworks, LLC.
Born in Virginia Beach, VA on March 30, 1962, he was the son of Mary Louise Gilbert and the late William Edward Gilbert. Vernon attended Frank W. Cox High School.
In addition to his mother, Vernon is survived by his son, Derek Gilbert; daughter, Carolyn Gilbert; and siblings, Joanne Barry, Buddy Gilbert, and Vivian Bryant. Also, surviving is Lisa Haynes, stepmother of Derek and Carolyn Gilbert and mother of David and Ethan Haynes; grandsons, Finn Gilbert and Liam Jones; and his dog, Frisco.
A celebration of Vernon’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Wanchese Assembly of God. A reception will follow at The Pavilion at Pirate’s Coves Marina beginning at 4:00 pm.
