California man arrested at Dare County checkpoint with illegal drugs

On April 4, 2020, at approximately 2 pm, a Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and Investigator working the Manns Harbor checkpoint stopped an individual from California trying to enter the county. During that time, the Deputies smelled an odor of Marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 13 pounds of Marijuana, an amount of Cocaine, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Ecstasy and LSD. An amount of US Currency was also seized during the encounter. Dare County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division care out to assist with the case. David Warren Raney, M/61, 40 Block of George Lane, Willow Creek, CA 95573, was arrested for (F) Trafficking in Marijuana and (F) Maintaining a vehicle or the controlled substance. Raney is being held on a $20,000 secured bond.
