The Dare County Sheriff’s Office issued the following press release on March 21 about an ongoing phone scam that is affecting Dare County residents.

The Clerk of Court Office has been spoofed. Their telephone number is being used to request money for documents, to purge documents and/or other services. If you receive this call do NOT give out your financial information. The Clerks Office and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office will never call and request money from you over the telephone.

If you are concerned, please call the Clerks Office 252-475-5200. Thank You.

Additionally, a scammer is using the number 252-302-3891 claiming they are Lt. Martin Paige of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office. The Dare County Sheriff’s Office does not have an employee by that name. Remember, never give your financial information over the phone for the Sheriff’s Office or Clerk of Court.
