Capital City Four Wheelers’ 38th Annual Fishing Tournament raises $6,000 for Outer Banks Buddies

Capital City Four Wheelers (CCFW) had great weather and great fishing this past weekend, and per event organizers, it was a fishing tournament for the books.

CCFW held its 38th annual fishing tournament on October 21-22, 2023. The tournament is a family-fun event that has fishing categories for all ages. During the tournament, CCFW gives door prizes and holds raffles, and organizers are very grateful for all the donated items from local businesses.

In 2023, CCFW held their traditional rod raffle which included a Carolina Cast Pro 11-foot Gen II rod, donated by Tommy Farmer of Carolina Cast Pro, paired with an Akios Surf Spinning Reel donated by Joe Moore of One More Cast, a Century 11 foot Sling Shot Surf Casting Rod paired with a Penn Fathom 2 Cast Reel donated by Ryan White of Hatteras Jack, and an Akios 13.2 foot Surf Spinning Rod paired with an Akois Surf Spinning Reel donated by Joe Moore of One More Cast.

CCFW takes the money from the rod raffle ticket sales and awards local charities and organizations on Hatteras Island, and these terrific combos raised a record-breaking $6,000.

This year, a new organization named Outer Banks Buddies (OBB) was the lucky recipient of the total ticket sales amount. OBB was nominated by the local community as the donation recipient, and the non-profit is Hatteras Island’s own version of big brother/big sister program.

“We have several eyes and ears on the island who always have their ear to the ground, so to speak, on organizations who could use extra funds and could do a lot of good for the community,” said Heather Vaughn, CCFW chairman.

When asked what made them choose Outer Banks Buddies for the donation, she replied, “The organization [provides] a much-needed service to the island. We expect to see great things out of them over the coming year.”

Some of the Capital City Four Wheelers and Outer Banks Buddies members met outside of Conners Supermarket for the donation exchange and pictures. Whitney Dempsey, creator of Outer Banks Buddies, was beaming as she thanked CCFW.

“We are so grateful that our non-profit was chosen to benefit from Capital City’s generosity,” said Dempsey. “Our goal has always been to help those in need on this island, and with this generous donation, so many doors have opened for us. We cannot thank them enough for giving back to this community, and we look forward to making a difference for our island. It takes a village, and we are that village.”
