Dare County Library Reminds Residents to Register for “Oceans of Possibilities” 2022 Summer Reading Program

The Dare County Library’s 2022 Summer Reading Program, “Oceans of Possibilities,” officially began last week, and if you haven’t had a chance to register your child, it’s not too late! Children can be signed up to participate in the program by visiting any of the Dare County Library’s three locations during business hours.

The Dare County Library’s Summer Reading Program—which is free for participants and designed to be flexible and fun for children of all ages—helps area children maintain the reading skills they developed throughout the school year so they will be better prepared to enter the classroom once again in the fall.

Last week, 320 Dare County children were registered for the program, and more than 1,700 children’s and teen books were borrowed from the Dare County Library’s three branches.

As the program heads into its second week, many additional free, fun and exciting activities are planned. To view a complete list of events and activities that are scheduled to take place, please check out the calendar of events by clicking the button below.

Now through Friday, August 12, 2022, when the Summer Reading Program ends, every participating child that reads for at least 40 days during this period will receive a brand-new book of their choice from the list of prize books provided courtesy of the Dare County Library Foundation.

This year, some weekly programs that will take place as part of the Summer Reading Program will be held outside in a shady area or under a tent, and others will be held in a library meeting room.

Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles: Make sure the children in your life don’t miss out on this free, fun and educational program – help them discover or rediscover the wonder that reading can bring into their lives.

For detailed information about registration, how the program works, and calendars of activities for each Dare County Library library location, please visit www.DareNC.com/SummerReadingProgram or stop by the Dare County Library branch in your area.
