The public is invited to attend the first-ever Hatteras Island Museums Open House Fall Extravaganza, which will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27.

Explore your favorite Hatteras Island museums during this full-day event, including the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station, Frisco Native American Museum, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, and The Lost Colony Museum, as all four sites will all be open and offering special activities during the Wednesday open house.

Want to try something new? Each site is also giving away recipes! Collect them all and create your own recipe books, and have fun at each museum’s scavenger hunt.

The schedule for the open house is as follows:

  • 10:00 a.m.—5:00 p.m., Chicamacomico Life Saving Station, Rodanthe (Admission)
Mel Poole returns with more tales at 11 a.m. and a scavenger hunt will also take you to some great recipes.
  • 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Hatteras Village (Free)
Expand your recipe collection with great local recipes. Delve into the past with the Graveyard of the Atlantic’s special edition scavenger hunt. Kids get a chance to do a craft in the morning.
  • 10:00 a.m.— 5:00 p.m., Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center, Frisco  (Admission)
Discover Native American history, countrywide and local. Their Native-themed scavenger hunt will be fun and challenging. Grab some real Native recipes – (nut-fried squash, anyone?) – to add to your collection.
  • 9:30 a.m.— 5:00 p.m., Lost Colony Museum, Buxton (Donation Requested)
You’ll be tempted by cider to check out the museum, and learn about the Lost Colony mystery. Hoard some more recipes to try back home.

Reservations for all of the museums are not required, and individuals can contact each site for additional information.
