The National Weather Service’s NOAA Weather Radio stations that serve the Outer Banks are off the air, while a system upgrade takes place.
All Hazards (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the nearest National Weather Service office.
NWR broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Transmitters that directly serve the Outer Banks include KIG-77 at 162.475 MHz which is located in Buxton, and WWH-26 at 162.425 MHz and located in Mamie in lower Currituck County.
Those stations are operated by the National Weather Service office in Newport/Morehead City, which covers Dare, Hyde, Tyrrell and adjacent counties.

The outage of the four stations operated by NWS Newport, including those located in New Bern and Warsaw, is expected to last through Wednesday.
The station located in Mamie also broadcasts alerts and information from the NWS office in Wakefield, Virginia, which covers Currituck, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Chowan and Gates counties.
