The annual 2024 Hatteras Village Golf Cart Parade, held on Thursday, July 4, was another big success, with 56 entries participating in this year’s procession.

The annual parade began in 2013 as a fundraiser for the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation, and the inaugural event attracted less than a dozen carts that were decked out in patriotic themes.

Once it became clear that the parade was a hit with locals and visitors, it became an annual celebration, with more and more folks participating with golf carts of all varieties.

The 2024 parade began by Teach’s Lair Marina and cruised through the village, impressing a long line of spectators along the way. A village cookout followed at the Community Building, with grill masters Nick Stutts, KD Jackson, Sam Midgett, and Charles Parker serving almost 600 burgers and hot dogs.

Judges Sandy Rosell, Nathan Snead, and Anne Mitchell Snead had a hard decision when it came to choosing the winners, but in the end, the following awards were announced:

  • Most Creative: Michelle T for Pirate Ship golf cart
  • Most Humorous: Scott O for Island Vibes golf cart
  • Most Patriotic: Bobby S for Giant Eagle Driver golf cart
