A wave of clouds puts on a show over Hatteras Island

A line of clouds created an impressive show on the southern Outer Banks on Friday evening, Feb. 7, which was caught on camera by a number of Hatteras Island residents and visitors.
The slightly unusual sight was likely a narrow band of clouds forced along a cold front moving over the Outer Banks region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City office.
“The airmass we’re in is quite dry, but the front is evidently strong [enough] to force some narrow clouds to form, as warmer air lifts above it,” stated the NWS.
Saturday will be a slightly cooler day after a warm start to the weekend, with temperatures in the low-to-mid 50s, and partly to mostly cloudy skies.
