The Independence Day Fireworks show in Avon is once again returning for 2024 on Thursday, July 4, but in the meantime, the Avon Property Owners Association (APOA) will be hosting a wave of upcoming fundraising events to ensure the show goes on this year, and many years to come.

  • On Saturday, June 15, the Koru Beach Klub in Avon will be hosting a Saturday Night Fever party from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. with lots of disco music and dancing. Tickets are just $10 at the door, and all ticket sales will go towards the annual Avon fireworks.
  • On Saturday, June 29, the APOA will host a community Fish Fry at the Avon Volunteer Fire Department station on 40159 Harbor Rd, starting at 5:30 p.m. Again, all proceeds from the Fish Fry will go towards the annual fireworks show.
  • On Thursday, July 4, the APOA will also have a special “swag table” set up near the Avon Pier throughout the day and evening, with glow sticks, patriotic items, and T-shirts for sale.

On July 4, the fireworks display, permitted by and in cooperation with the National Park Service, will begin at 9:15 p.m. from a launch site at the end of the Avon Pier.

The ensuing show, orchestrated and presented by the contractor PYROSTAR, typically lasts about 20 minutes.

The fireworks are visible all along Avon beach, and parking adjacent to the launch site is limited, so visitors are encouraged to walk, bike, or carpool to their closest beach access.

Visitors are advised to avoid surfing or swimming within 500 feet of the pier in any direction, as it is highly dangerous, and the Dare County Fire Marshal could call off the event due to any unsafe conditions. In 2022, people in the water near the Avon Pier caused an approximately 15-minute delay in the fireworks show, per event organizers.

Hatteras Island’s annual Independence Day celebration is sponsored by the Avon Property Owners Association (APOA) and is funded in part by the Outer Bank Visitors Bureau. The event is additionally made possible through generous donations from the Hatteras Island business community and its residents, property owners, and guests.

To make a donation towards the Avon Fireworks:

  • Individuals and businesses can make online donations at https://www.avonpoa.org/donate.
  • Donations can also be made via checks to the following address: APOA-Fireworks, P.O. Box 9, Avon, NC 27915. Checks can be made out to APOA with “fireworks” in the memo line.
