Cape Hatteras Secondary School’s Darren Moore named CTE Teacher of the Year

Dare County Schools proudly announces Darren Moore as the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year.
Moore, a marketing teacher at Cape Hatteras Secondary School (CHSS), was selected by his peers for his outstanding contributions to the CTE program and his dedication to preparing students for careers in marketing, business, and hospitality. He also serves as CHSS’ Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) advisor, guiding students toward success in business and marketing.
Under Moore’s leadership, Cape Hatteras Secondary DECA students have consistently been recognized at state and national levels for their innovation, professionalism, and expertise. Through DECA competitions and programs, Moore helps develop emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
During the nomination process, Moore’s colleagues praised his commitment to students, stating, “Darren goes above and beyond for his students at Cape Hatteras. He introduces new curriculum based on student interests, works tirelessly to prepare them for DECA competitions, and truly embodies what it means to be a CTE teacher in our community.”
Another colleague added, “Students love this teacher. He consistently goes above and beyond for all of them.”
Moore will now represent Dare County Schools at the state level, competing for the North Carolina Association for Career & Technical Education (NCACTE) Teacher of the Year Award.
The North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) CTE Teacher of the Year program was established to honor and retain outstanding CTE educators and leaders in North Carolina public and charter schools.
About CTE
The mission of Career and Technical Education (CTE) is to empower all students to be successful citizens, workers and leaders in a global economy. CTE gives purpose to learning by emphasizing real-world skills and practical knowledge.
Programs in Career and Technical Education are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including basic skills such as reading, writing, and mathematics, as well as their ability to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively, solve problems, and utilize technology. These tools and experiences make school more relevant, and ensure students are ready for the real world.
