The Frisco Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) will hold a BBQ fundraiser on Friday, August 30, to raise funds for the department’s new fire station.

The event will be held at the Frisco fire station at 52470 N.C. Highway 12 from 12:00 p.m. until the food sells out, and will feature barbecue, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, and dessert.

The Frisco Free Market, held at the Frisco Fire Station, was already stocked days after Dorian

All proceeds will go towards the Frisco VFD’s efforts to fund a new and more weather and flood-resilient fire station.

The fire station is the full-time home of the VFD, but it also serves as a central home base during hurricanes and other disasters that affect Hatteras Island. During Hurricane Dorian in 2019, the Frisco VFD station was where southern Hatteras Island residents could find help, cleaning supplies, food and grocery staples. and everything required to recover after the storm.

Earlier in 2024, North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM) announced that the Frisco VFD was one of the first round of grant recipients for the 2023 Disaster Relief and Mitigation Fund (DRMF), with a $425,000 award towards the project.

“Every donation helps go towards the Frisco Volunteer Fire Department Building Fund,” stated the Frisco VFD in an online update. “Bring your appetite, your family, and your friends! Let’s make this Labor Day one to remember while supporting a fantastic cause.”

The BBQ fundraiser is donation-based, with no set cost per plate. For more information on the event, visit the Frisco VFD’s Facebook page.
