Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge nominated in USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards

The Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge just north of Rodanthe has been nominated as America’s Best National Wildlife Refuge in USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
The U.S. National Wildlife Refuge system comprises of 571 refuges with at least refuge one in every state, (as well as another 38 wetland management districts), and USA Today’s panel recently nominated 20 of these protected areas for the Best National Wildlife Refuge award.
Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge includes approximately 5,000 acres of diverse habitats including salt marshes, dunes, maritime forests, and ponds. Serving as a nesting, resting, and wintering area for migratory birds along the Atlantic Flyway, visitors can observe flocks of swans, ducks, and other waterfowl, in addition to other wildlife like river otters and sea turtles.
The Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum was recently in a similar USA Today competition for Best New Museum, coming in second behind the York County History Center in York, Pennsylvania
The public can vote once per day until voting ends on Monday, March 10, at 12:00 p.m. ET. The top 10 winners will be announced on Wednesday, March 19.
