BUXTON- David Allyn Goodwin, 66, passed away Oct. 30, 2013 at his residence.
Heis survived by his daughter, Laura Michelle Goodwin and son ScottHancock Goodwin and his wife, Jennifer, and their twin sons, Tyler andCaleb, whom David loved dearly, all of Wilmington N.C.
Hewas the son of the late Charles Russell Goodwin and Dorothy JonesGoodwin of Raleigh N.C. Charles and Dorothy owned property on Hatterasand David spent a great deal of his childhood on Hatteras Island. Hewas a veteran who served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy duringthe Vietnam War.
“DAG,”as he was known to many, relocated to Hatteras Island permanently afterthe death of his father, in the late 1990s. He served his community byvolunteering with various organizations. He was a staunch supporter ofbeach access. He devoted a great deal of his time volunteering andserving on the board of directors of the Outer Banks PreservationAssociation and then the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association. Davidalso served as member of the federal negotiated rulemaking committeetasked with writing the final rule for the ORV Management Plan for theCape Hatteras National Seashore.
Davidexpanded his love of animals and spent much of his time caring for,rehabilitating, transporting, and loving Hatteras Island’s many strayand feral cats, especially after Hurricane Irene. In lieu of flowers,the family asked that donations be made in his honor to Hatteras IslandFriends of Felines, PO Box 310, Avon, NC 27915.
