SUFFOLK, Va. — The prettiest girl on the island has gone home. She nowruns on that eternal beach in endless summer. Lorena Francis DixonHassell passed away the morning of Oct. 25, 2016. She was 97 yearsyoung. Born in Morehead City, N. C., on April 9, 1919, she was thedaughter of Bertie Dixon of Portsmouth Island and Eva Mae Bragg ofOcracoke. She is pre-deceased by both parents and her brothers ElvinDixon and wife Grace, Merian Dixon, Bertie Dixon Jr. and wife Elise,and her infant twin brother Lorenzo Dixon.
She is survived by a son, A. Charles Hassell of Suffolk, Va.; adaughter, Diane Lorraine Hassell, and fianc�, Keith Oliver, of Buxton;a granddaughter, Lauren Diane Cuthrell of Durham, N.C.; a grandson,Logan Aubrey Cuthrell of Buxton; great-grandson, Liam Aubrey Cuthrellof Smithfield, Va., three nieces and four nephews.
A funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 28, at Meadowbrook MemorialGarden in Suffolk with Rev. Edmund Pickup officiating.
