KILL DEVIL HILLS — 
Bonita J. Smith (Bonnie) passed away from liver failure on November 25, 2020 at home in Kill Devil Hills. She was born on May 22, 1943 in Broome County NY, the daughter of the late Ralph Darrow and the late Florence C. (Wiggins) Darrow. She was also predeceased by her son, Keith Johnson who passed away in 2011.
Right after she graduated, Bonnie married her sweetheart, Kenneth A. Smith Sr. on July 8, 1961. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this past July.
In addition to her husband, Bonnie is survived by her two sons, Richard Darrow and Kenneth A. Smith Jr. (Tammy “T” Kenote-Smith);nine grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bonnie graduated from Vestal High School in 1961. She was a Sunday school teacher. She loved Bingo, poker, putting puzzles together, and time with the family. She was always there to lend a helping hand for her family, friends anyway she could. Mom’s favorite time of the year was Christmas and she loved to read the bible story about Christmas Day. Mom is and always was a loving caring Mom, Aunt, Great Aunt, Grandma, Great Grandma, Great, Great Grandma and friend. She donated to Feed the Children and other organizations. Mom was an amazing woman that will be missed but never forgotten.
There will be a COVID compliant viewing Friday, December 4, 2020 from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Gallop Memorial Chapel in Nags Head. Masks will be required to attend. The graveside burial service will be held at Laurel Memorial Gardens Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 1 pm with Reverend Greg Wise officiating. Masks will be required to attend.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bonnie’s memory are gratefully asked to donate directly to Gallop Funeral Services or to the Smith family to offset expenses for Bonnie’s headstone.
