April 8, 1967 – April 3, 2022
MANTEO — Jody Mullis Mikul, 54, of Manteo, NC, died on April 3, 2022, after an arduous ride with ovarian cancer. She was born on April 8, 1967, to Helen and Jon Mullis in Charlotte, NC.
Jody was a caring mother, JoJo (grandma), sister, and friend. She is gone far too soon and will be missed each day by so many people, far and wide. In her short time on earth, she accomplished so much to make the world a more beautiful place. You can’t go far on the Outer Banks without seeing her art, whether it be hung in your friend’s house, out in their garden, up in a local shop; you might see one of the murals she painted in a vacation home or a sign she did for the local thrift store or cafe—she used her skills however she could to leave her mark on the world. There was great pleasure for her in taking art classes in many different media and even teaching classes on how to create one of her exquisite mosaic pieces. Her purpose was in helping others, always offering a hand, or taking someone in. Being a young mother herself, she found comfort in helping other young mothers get on their feet even if it was just a ride somewhere or a conversation about the difficulties of life, she liked to be an ear for people who needed support – even when that meant just listening. Before she decided to pursue art full time, she worked many years for the Outer Banks Hotline as a thrift store manager, following in the footsteps of her mother, who was the first shelter mother for the organization many years ago. Her greatest contribution is her 3 daughters and 3 grandchildren, the people who brought her the most joy and who will carry on the beauty that is, Jody.
Jody is survived by her daughter, Dixie Mullis (Cameron Ray), daughter Hannah Graham (Jack Graham), and daughter, Casey Sloate (Chris McDonald), grandsons, Parks Thomas and Arthur Charles, granddaughter, Pearl Helen, her sister, Helen Mikul, brother, Charley Mikul, sister, Shannon Mullis, and brother, Jeremy Mullis(Amy Mullis), nieces and nephews, Sarah Wackerhagen, John Wackerhagen, Sam Wackerhagen, Elle Sawin, Jessica Mikul, Joseph Sawin, Savannah Sawin, Ethan Mullis, Kara Mullis, and Quinn Mullis. She is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Mullis, and her father, Jon Mullis.
