FRISCO — John Robert Ochs passed into the arms of his Lord Jesus February 21, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was 78 and preceded in death by his parents, Russell Ochs and Antonietta Rosiello Ochs, and his brother, Eddie Ochs.
John was born into a military family in Naples, Italy. He emigrated to America as a boy and spent his childhood in several states. In his youth, John loved longboard surfing and worked as a life guard for the National Parks Service. Later, he would enlist in the United States Marine Corps and defend his country bravely and honorably in the jungles of Vietnam.
After his distinguished military service, John returned home to Hatteras Island to work in the family business – the Quarter Deck Restaurant. When he wasn’t at work, John was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also developed into a talented artist, giving countless paintings to his friends all over the Outer Banks to enjoy. John went on to serve the community through the Masonic Lodge #698 of Cape Hatteras and enjoyed attending church.
John Ochs will be remembered for his love of God, family, country, children, and animals. Left to cherish his memory in his loving wife of 57 years, Darlene Ochs of the Frisco residence, his sister-in-law, Juanita Ochs also of Frisco, his loyal friend, Norman Palmer of Grandy, NC, several cousins, his Marine Corps brothers, and countless friends.
Darlene is honoring John’s preference for cremation. A celebration of life will be held in the near future. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com .
