HATTERAS — Margaret O’Linda “Margie” Gray Easley, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at the age of 70, at her mother’s home in Hatteras, North Carolina. Born on June 22, 1954, in Buxton, North Carolina, Margie lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to her community.

A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, Margie earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing and went on to serve as a dedicated nurse at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City. Her caring nature and dedication to helping others were evident throughout her career, working at The Channel Bass Restaurant in Hatteras and later retiring as a Postmaster.

Margie’s life was enriched by her many interests, especially her love of spending time at the beach with friends and family, and sharing cherished “wine time” with her mother and loved ones. An active member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church, she also contributed her time as an assistant coach for the Cape Hatteras Secondary School varsity basketball team for six years, and as a volunteer for the CHEC Foundation, FEMA, and Red Cross blood drives.

In recognition of her outstanding service and contributions to her community, Margie was a proud recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Margie was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Milton Easley; father, Robert Hal Gray; brother, Robbie Gray; stepmother, Mary Lou Gray; stepfather, Dan Burroughs; brothers-in-law, Bobby Schwartz and Hanky Easley; and parents-in-law, Henry and Carrie Easley.

She leaves behind a devoted family who will continue to honor her memory: mother, Winona Burroughs of Hatteras; daughters, Carrie Barley (Waylon) of Buxton, Hali Easley of Hatteras, and Maggie Williams (Ben) of Buxton; son, Robbie Easley of Hatteras; granddaughters, Laya Barley, Banx Nelson, Adina Nelson, and Grayson Williams. Also surviving are her sister, Melodi Schwartz of Buxton; stepsister, Laurie Parker of Hatteras; stepbrothers, Ben Burroughs of New York, Tim Barnett of Buxton, and Ranny Barnett of Florida; niece, Lacey Schwartz; nephews, Justin Davis, Stefan Schwartz, and Lance Easley; along with numerous cousins and dear friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Margie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Hatteras United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Amanda Hedden. The family will welcome friends and relatives for a reception immediately following the service at the Hatteras Community Building.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hatteras Island Cancer Foundation (PO Box 442, Hatteras, NC 27943).

Margie will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, her laughter, and the strength she drew from her community and faith, leaving a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
