Phillip Alan Greer, born September 28, 1959, in Boone, North Carolina, passed suddenly at his home in Kill Devil Hills, on January 11, 2025.
In Phil’s early life, he left Boone to attend the University of Missouri where he graduated with a BA in Journalism. However, he never left either behind. He never strayed far from his North Carolina roots and was never happier than when he was cheering the mighty Tigers, whether it be from the stadium or his living room. Even his personal email was “MizzouandBoone”.
Phil spent forty years in advertising as a writer, creative director, and Senior Vice President, mostly with Henderson in Greenville, SC, and Lewis Advertising in Rocky Mount, NC. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Margaret. He was nationally recognized in the Hardee’s Restaurant System for his work on Boddie-Noell and national print media for all Carl’s/Hardee’s franchise restaurants. He was a voracious learner and had a unique grasp of combining creativity with sales and business strategy. Phil and his beloved wife, Margaret, moved to their dream cottage on the Outer Banks when they retired from full-time work in 2022.
Phil’s joie de vivre (joy of life) made friends of strangers and, once you were his friend, it was life-long. He lived out loud and if you ask anyone who knew Phil, the words fun and funny come to mind. Whether it was golf outings or hunting near Lake Gaston, Phil loved the outdoors and often enjoyed it with family and friends. He scored his first hole-in-one in October 2024.
What Phil loved the most were his family and friends. His home and heart were always open, and he was always ready to entertain with food, music, and fun. He was a loving husband and devoted father to his stepsons whom he loved as his own. Watching them grow into men, marry, and have children of their own was his greatest joy.
Phil’s survivors include his wife of 29 years, Margaret; his sons, Gavin Ros (Krystal) and Ian Ros (Natalie); his grandchildren, Indy and Melody Ros; his mother, Alice Quattrocchi; his father, Richard Greer (Retta); his sisters, Sharon Blessing (Paul) and Sarah Smith (Adam); his brother, John Greer; his sisters-in-law, Gina Weber (Jim), Elisabeth Hardy (Chris), Patti Gering (Bruce), Barbara Theroux (Paul), Tracy Manheim (Bill), Laurie Reeder (Matt); his brother-in-law, William Ritter (Lori); and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate his life on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1:00pm at Aviator Brewing Company Smokehouse Event Center, at 519 Broad St., Fuquay-Varina, NC. As with every party Phil hosted, all are welcome.
Phil was always ready to share his talents and passions and was always happy to help out a family member, friend, or neighbor. So it seems fitting that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any of the following organizations: Outer Banks Food Pantry (https://beachfoodpantry.org), Ducks Unlimited – Missouri Chapter (https://www.ducks.org/missouri) or Hurricane Helene – Boone United Methodist Church (https://booneumc.org).
