CHNS Update From Ranger Karol Jones

Share post:

Welcome and good luck to 4 Plus 4 Wheel Drive fishing tournament April 28 and 29, kickoff meeting 7 am Fessenden Center.

Great news South Beach Parking Area is now open (Old Ramp 45).  An ORV permit is NOT required if the road and parking area is accessed from the Cape Point campground.  Visitors can drive around the last loop until they see the sign P for Parking and turn right.  The road changes from asphalt to shell base.  Follow that road and stop at the stop sign posted at the intersection of Inside Road.  Go straight through the intersection to reach the parking area closer to the beach.   Just past the parking area there will be bollards and a takedown gate signed for entry to Authorized Vehicles only.  Currently pedestrians can enter the area but please be cognizant of signed resource protection areas nearby.  ORV permit users are able to freely turn onto South Beach Road to access the parking area too.

The old Frisco pier was predominantly removed, however some pilings in the water remain.  Danger signs were posted on some of the pilings warning people of the submerged hazards in the area, if recreating in the ocean in the vicinity of the removed pier.  The parking lot will tentatively open after May 5.  The rest of the pilings will then be removed in September.
