Lifeguards are returning to Cape Hatteras National Seashore’s five lifeguarded beaches for the 2025 summer season starting on Saturday, May 24.
From Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day, lifeguards are on duty daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:
- Coquina Beach Beach Access (Bodie Island)
Located across from the Bodie Island Lighthouse site. - Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Beach Access (Hatteras Island)
Adjacent to the Old Cape Hatteras Lighthouse site. - Frisco Beach Access (Hatteras Island)
Located just south of Frisco Village. - Ocracoke Beach Access (Ocracoke Island).
Located 1.5 miles south of the Seashore campground or .5 mile north of Ocracoke Village - Rodanthe Beach Access (Hatteras Island)
Located at 23731 N.C. Highway 12, Rodanthe
Areas in between lifeguarded beaches are patrolled by National Park Service Rangers and local rescue squads as staffing and schedules allow.
Before heading to the beach, check surf and swimming conditions and the daily beach forecast at weather.gov/beach/mhx, which includes rip current risk levels, and information about other hazards along the shoreline.
