ORVs will be required to display permits on windshields or dashboards beginning July 20

Per a recent update from the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, all off-road vehicle (ORV) permit holders will be required to display proof of permit on their windshields or dashboards starting on Monday, July 20.

For a limited period of time, the Cape Hatteras National Seashore (CHNS) accepted proof of ORV permits on mobile devices for ORV users who couldn’t print the permit. Effective July 20, digital devices will no longer be an acceptable method to display proof of permit.

CHNS has also developed a solution for ORV permit holders that cannot print their permit for display in their vehicles.

For permitted ORV users that cannot print the proof of permit from the www.recreation.gov website, the CHNS is providing self-certification cards that can be used to write in all required proof of permit information, including the signature of the permittee. Once signed, the self-certification card must be placed in the windshield or dashboard of ORV to be valid. By the end of this week, self-certification cards will be available outside all CHNS visitor centers and in many local tackle shops.

You do not need a self-certification card if you have access to a printer and are planning on purchasing an ORV permit at www.recreation.gov. Using the print-at-home option to print the proof of ORV permit is the preferred method.
