The Buxton Civic Association (BCA) is partnering with Café Pamlico to host a Mardi Gras Celebration and Fundraiser on Saturday, February 22, from 3-6 p.m.

This is the first substantial fundraiser for the new-in-2024 BCA, and the venue and event came together easily thanks to an existing connection with Inn on Pamlico Sound and Café Pamlico owner Steve Nelson.

“Steve has attended several BCA meetings, and has his own history of advocating for civic-like projects,” said BCA President Heather Jennette. “Many of us have worked with him in various capacities, or attended events held at the Inn, so when they extended the offer to help us with a fundraiser, we jumped at the opportunity.

“We all brainstormed for the theme, and with the date in February, came up with the idea of Mardi Gras, which we think will be super fun.”

The event will feature Cajun-inspired hors d’oeuvres, live music from Micha Iverson, and a cash bar. There is a $10 cover charge, and all proceeds from the celebration will go to fund the BCA’s many initiatives for 2025 and beyond.

“Proceeds will help to cover ongoing costs such as attending conferences – which has proved to be hugely beneficial – maintaining the website, and other costs like insurance that are just a part of running a non-profit,” said Jennette. “As a newly formed group, we are really starting from scratch with this, and are excited about our first big opportunity to raise some funds and have some fun!”
