The Dare County Library has announced that it will host a brand-new quarterly series of programs that highlight local history in collaboration with the Outer Banks History Center on Roanoke Island beginning later this month.

During the series—which is the latest in the Library Enrichment Series for Adults—Samantha Crisp, who serves as director of the Outer Banks History Center, will present four one-hour programs for Dare County Library cardholders.

The series will kick off at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, with Crisp’s virtual presentation of “Carolista Baum and the Fight to Save Jockey’s Ridge.” Covering the valiant efforts of a local environmentalist to save an Outer Banks natural wonder, this program will feature a variety of photos and items that are found exclusively in the Outer Banks History Center’s archive.

The next program in the quarterly series will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, when Crisp is scheduled to present “Millard Blackwell Creef: A Dare County War Hero.” Enlisted in World War II, Creef was the first Dare County boy to be killed in service overseas. This virtual presentation will showcase Creef’s life on the Outer Banks through various papers held at the Outer Banks History Center.

Programs in this series are free for Dare County residents and property owners who are 18 years of age and older; however, registration is required and space is limited. Participants can register up until one hour before the presentation is scheduled to begin.
