Repairs to U.S. 158 lanes northbound between Conch and Hollowell streets in Nags Head have been completed much earlier than anticipated.

All lanes between Soundside Road and Hollowell Street have reopened to traffic as of Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Rather than having to use the Beach Road as a detour for up to three weeks, crews were able to repair roadway that undermined by a leaking water main while rerouting traffic through the center turn lane starting Monday.

The section of the road had been temporarily patched, with plans to fully resurface it to more evenly match the rest of the highway’s condition after it was just repaved in 2024.

But with the colder-than-normal temperatures this past winter, the initial repair project had to be delayed until just recently, and the full repair was delayed until this week.
