On Tuesday, June 20, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet responded to a small craft taking on water in the Pamlico Sound. Once notified, Station Hatteras Inlet crewmembers got underway to the vessel’s last known position.

When the crew arrived on scene, the CG27143 utilized the dewatering pump for a majority of the vessel and manned the handheld bilge pump onboard the vessel. The vessel was then towed.

While heading to the shore, the engineer located where the water intrusion was, and held a patch on the hole until the crew arrived back to the marina. After the vessel had been safely returned , the unit conducted a post-search and rescue (SAR) boarding to ensure the appropriate safety equipment was onboard, and to evaluate the vessel’s seaworthiness.

“These safety inspections are a great opportunity to talk with the operator about the importance of safety equipment and how to use it efficiently,” stated the Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet in an online update “Great response by the unit. Bravo Zulu.”
