There will be at least three new members of the Dare County Board of Commissioners in December, after a pair of newcomers won their Republican primaries on Tuesday.
Carson Creef defeated incumbent District 1 Commissioner Wally Overman by a 56.04% to 43.96% margin (2,924 to 2,294), according to unofficial results.
Creef will be unopposed in the November general election.
In the District 1 unexpired term race, Michael Burrus defeated incumbent Commissioner Bea Basnight 55.54% to 44.46% (2,942 to 2,355).
Basnight was appointed to replace Jim Tobin, who passed away last year, to fill the seat until the 2024 election. Burrus will not have an opponent in November.
In District 2, Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard defeated Christian Thomas Hayman 67.54% to 32.46% (3,437 to 1,652).
Woodard will face Democrat Katie Morgan in the general election, one of three contested races this November.
District 3 Republican Commissioner Steve House is being challenged by Democrat Dennis Zaenger.
Democrat Aida Havel and Republican Mary Ellon Ballance are seeking to replace District 4 Commissioner Danny Couch, who chose not to seek reelection.
