Dare County Schools initiating a remote learning program in response to imminent school closures
Per a recent update from John Farrelly, Dare County Schools (DCS) Superintendent, the county schools’ leadership team has developed a “Remote Learning Plan” to prepare for an event like the Coronavirus, and is finalizing details in advance of the closure of public schools across the state.
At a Saturday afternoon press conference, Gov. Roy Cooper announced that public schools for grades K-12 would close throughout North Carolina as of Monday, March 16, as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.
“We are prepared to begin a K-12 remote learning program that will commence this week,” stated Superintendent Farrelly in an email update. “The North Carolina State Board of Education is meeting at this hour. We anticipate the State Board will provide more specific guidance to public school districts. Dare County School community stakeholders will receive more detailed information regarding our remote learning plan and next steps by 2:00 pm tomorrow.”
The Island Free Press will continue to post updates as soon as they are available.
